1. General Overview

  • The House Doubles League is a skill-based, gender-neutral league running every Sunday from May 11 to Sep 28, 2025.
  • Matches are played at 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM (times may be adjusted when required, with advance notice).
  • The league consists of four divisions, with Division 1 comprising the most skilled players.
  • Players are assigned to divisions based on skill level and past performance.
  • Players move up and down in divisions based on performance every seven weeks.
  • New members must participate in a mandatory tryout session before division placement.

2. League Organization

  • The House League is managed by a Program Lead appointed by the BTC Board.
  • The Program Lead is assisted by a League Team Support also appointed by the BTC Board.
  • The Program Lead and BTC Board responsibilities include:
    • Reviewing and approving League Rules
    • Communicating League Rules to participating members
    • Reviewing and approving the League Schedule for the season
    • Reviewing and adjusting player divisions when required
    • Securing court bookings for the season and making adjustments when necessary
    • Scheduling and organizing tryout sessions for new members
    • Communicating any program changes to participants in a timely manner

3. League Format

  • Players must sign up weekly for available match slots via the Online Club Platform (Jegysoft).
  • Each match session lasts 2 hours.
  • Each session consists of three sets of 6 games each, with player rotation ensuring different partners for each set.
  • Weekly scoring system:
    • 1 point for each set won
    • 1 additional point for participating
    • Maximum possible: 4 points per week

4. Match Play Rules

  • All matches follow standard tennis doubles rules.
  • Tie-breaker protocol: If time is running out, a tiebreaker game may be played instead of completing a full set.
  • If a third set cannot be completed due to time constraints, players will split the points (0.5 points each).
  • The club will provide new tennis ball cans each Sunday – the 8:00 AM group must leave the balls for the 10:00 AM group.
  • Players are recommended to bring their own backup tennis balls in case of club supply delays.
  • Score reporting:
    • The four players in each match must designate one person responsible for reporting scores for all three sets.
    • Scores must be reported using the method determined and communicated by the Program Lead (e.g., Google Sheet, email, or Jegysoft if supported).
    • All players should verify the reported scores are accurate before submission.

5. Division Movement & Rankings

Note: The ranking system is designed to be flexible based on division size while maintaining fairness. The Program Lead will clearly communicate which calculation method applies to each division at the start of each seven-week session.

  • The league operates in 7-week rounds for ranking purposes.
  • Division movement occurs at the end of each 7-week round as follows:
    • Top 4 players in Divisions 2, 3, and 4 move up one division
    • Bottom 4 players in Divisions 1, 2, and 3 move down one division
  • Rankings are calculated based on a player's best three weeks of performance within each seven-week session by default.
  • The Program Lead may adjust this calculation method based on division size:
    • For divisions with many players: May reduce to "best two weeks" to ensure fair evaluation when players cannot get three matches in seven weeks
    • For divisions with few players: May use all matches played (up to seven) to determine rankings
  • Participation requirements:
    • Players who do not participate in any matches during a seven-week session maintain their current division
    • Players who participate in only one match during a seven-week session cannot move up regardless of performance
  • Players must play in their assigned division unless the Program Lead approves an exception under special circumstances (e.g., no available substitute players from the same division).
  • Each division will have:
    • A roster of core players
    • A waitlist of substitute players (marked as "waitlisted" in Jegysoft) who can be called upon when core roster players are unavailable

6. Sign-Up & Attendance

  • Weekly sign-ups open in Jegysoft 7 days in advance of each match day.
  • Attendance responsibilities:
    • Players who cannot attend must remove their name promptly to allow replacements
    • Players who cancel after 12:00 PM on the preceding Saturday will be ineligible to play the following week
  • Players on vacation can pause participation without losing their division placement by notifying the Program Lead.
  • Participation management:
    • For divisions with many players, the Program Lead may limit the number of matches each player can register for during a seven-week session
    • These participation limits will be:
      • Determined on a division-by-division basis
      • Communicated clearly to all division members at the start of each seven-week period
    • The goal is to ensure all players have fair opportunity to participate in enough matches for ranking purposes

7. Weather & Cancellations

  • Matches may be canceled or delayed due to wet or unsafe court conditions.
  • Cancellation decision timeline:
    • For 8:00 AM matches: Decision made by 7:00 AM
    • For 10:00 AM matches: Decision made by 9:00 AM
  • Notification process:
    • Updates will be sent via email to all registered participants by a member of the League Team Organization
    • Players can also check court conditions via the Club Live Webcam

8. Sportsmanship & Conduct

  • All players must adhere to BTC's Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Disputes should be resolved amicably on the court between players.
  • For unresolved issues, the League Team Organization will make final decisions.
